Biography

Melina is a long distance member of our teaching family at Mommy, Music & Me, inc. When in town for a whole semester she actively teaches with us. Melina Pineda has been teaching Music Together since 1999 and founded “Musicalia”, a Music Together center in her hometown of Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 2007. Recently The Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ awarded her Music Together Certification Level II status for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education. Her busy schedule as a professional opera singer kept her away from Music Together for a few years while she was away performing with The Florida Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Knoxville Opera, Ash Lawn Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Chicago Opera Theater and Berkshire Opera among others. In her home country she has performed with the Honduras National Symphony Orchestra, as well as offered a number of solo recitals, including an exclusive performance at the 2002 Presidential Inauguration in Honduras at the Mayan Copan Ruins.

She earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, an M.M. in Opera Performance from the Boston Conservatory and a Certificate in Opera Performance from the Boston University Opera Institute.

She has been a winner and award recipient of the Anna Sosenko Voice Competition, Heinz Rehfuss Opera Competition, Florida Grand Opera Young Patronesses of the Opera, and Palm Beach Opera Competition. She was recently honored by the Ministry of Arts and Culture of Honduras with the annual award “Hoja de Laurel en Oro”, making her the only woman to be a recipient in the Music Genre for the year 2009.
